John Armstrong is National Industry Leader, Financial Services at KPMG, accountable for industry leadership in Canada of all services - audit, tax and consulting - across all sub-industry groups - banking, insurance, asset management and dealers.
Prior, he was Managing Director of Slalom in Canada, where he led Slalom’s Financial Services and Business Advisory practices.
John has over 25 years of experience consulting in the banking, wealth management, and capital markets sectors on business strategy, technology and operations for leading Canadian and global institutions.
Prior to joining Slalom, John served as Canadian Managing Partner of Capco, a leading global business and technology consultancy dedicated solely to the financial services industry. During his three year tenure as Capco was recognized as 17th in Best Workplaces in Canada.
Prior to Capco, John served in a variety of senior leadership roles over more than a decade at Accenture, including as Managing Director of the firm’s Canadian Financial Services practice and as Managing Director of Accenture’s Management Consulting practice across all industries.
John also serves on the Ontario Task Force on Competitiveness, Productivity and Economic Progress, as well as serving as Chairman of the Board of the United Way of Oakville.
Previously, he was Canadian Managing Director of Monitor Company, a strategy consultancy, where he co-authored, with Professor Michael E. Porter and Roger Martin, Canada at the Crossroads, a comprehensive study of Canada’s competitiveness.
John began his career with the Boston Consulting Group in Boston MA. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University with High Distinction, graduating as a George F. Baker Scholar and earned his Bachelor of Commerce, with Distinction from the University of Toronto. John also holds the ICD.D designation.
